Cardi B Shocks Fans: Divorce From Offset After 6 Years of Marriage – What Really Happened?

Cardi B and Offset are separating once more. On Wednesday, July 31, Cardi B, 31, officially filed for divorce from Offset, 32, ending their six-year marriage. This was confirmed by a representative for the “Bodak Yellow” rapper to the New York Post’s Page Six. The decision to divorce follows new cheating allegations involving Offset and his ex-girlfriend, Pretty Redz. Both have denied these rumors.
PrettyRedz posted on social media, stating, “SMH that man wasn’t with me. I was already there with my husband’s sister and brother, and I’m 7 months pregnant… you all really need to stop this kind of behavior.”
Offset also posted on social media, saying, “People really need to do their research… I’m at a public place gambling at a casino with a married woman who is 8 months pregnant. Why would I be out in public cheating? SMD!!!”
The filing states that Cardi B is requesting primary custody of their two children, 6-year-old Kulture Kiari and 2½-year-old Wave Set.
According to a recording shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), she candidly told her followers, “I’ve been single for a minute now.”
The artist, who has won a Grammy, shared her wish to begin the new year with a renewed perspective, saying, “I’m eager for a new life, for a fresh start. And yes… I’m thrilled.”
Although they have separated, the couple shared meaningful times together in recent months.
They spent New Year’s Eve together, Offset directed Cardi B’s music video for “Like What (Freestyle)” in March, they went to a Knicks game in May, and during that month, Cardi B stated in a Rolling Stone interview that they were “all right now.”
“Because we do love each other,” Cardi B said at the time.
“It’s not just about love. We’re best friends. It’s like, ‘OK. There was a time when I didn’t have a best friend or a support system.’ It’s not about ‘How do you leave a partner?’ but rather, ‘How do you stop communicating with your best friend?’”
In December, Cardi B spoke about their relationship with emotion during an Instagram Live session.
“This guy really enjoys messing with me when I’m at my most vulnerable. When my confidence is low,” she expressed. “He enjoys playing games with me because he knows I'm not an easy girl.”
Since their marriage in September 2017, Cardi B and Offset have experienced a rocky relationship.
They first declared a separation in 2018, reconciled afterward, and then Cardi B filed for divorce once more in September 2020, which they subsequently canceled.
The couple encountered additional difficulties in June 2023 when Offset accused Cardi B of infidelity in an Instagram Story that was later removed. The post stated, “My wife f—ed a N—- on me gang yall n—- know how I come.” Cardi B replied during a Twitter Space chat, where she sang the first verse of Keyshia Cole’s “I Should Have Cheated,” and remarked to listeners, “That motherf—er spiraling and thinking s—.”
“Please boy, quit acting foolish. Quit acting foolish,” she directly told Offset. “Going wild over a f—ing Space. Don’t mess with me. What the f—. Stop messing around. That’s all I’m gonna motherf—ing say.” Despite these issues, the couple released their single “Jealousy” together a month later. The cover art for the track showed Cardi B with her hand in Offset’s face as she turned away.
In September, they marked their fifth wedding anniversary, with Offset decorating their home with pink flowers and candles.
On Instagram, Cardi B shared her gratitude, stating, “Thank you for the flowers, the empowerment, the protection, and for being an amazing father to our children… I love so many things about you.”
Offset responded with his own Instagram post, stating, “Since meeting you, I have grown into a better man. No matter what, you have my back, and I can trust you with my life. I am blessed to have a loyal, strong woman by my side… you are my safe haven in this chaotic world.”
