Irv Gotti, the renowned music producer and founder of Murder Inc. Records, has died at the age of 54. His children announced his passing, noting that he was with family and friends at the time. Gotti had been struggling with diabetes for several years, resulting in a minor stroke in early 2024. Although he made adjustments to his lifestyle, his health issues continued.
Originally named Irving Lorenzo Jr., Gotti significantly influenced the hip-hop and R&B scene during the late 1990s and early 2000s. He was crucial in the rise of artists such as Ja Rule and Ashanti, producing hit songs like "Always On Time" and "Foolish." His work also included collaborations with prominent artists like DMX, Jennifer Lopez, and Jay-Z.
During his career, Gotti encountered legal issues, such as being acquitted of money laundering charges in 2005. Despite these obstacles, he continued to be an influential figure in the music industry, recognized for his creative vision and commitment to his work.

Industry peers have paid tribute, with Def Jam Recordings, the parent company of Murder Inc., praising his creative brilliance and steadfast commitment to the culture. Lyor Cohen, a former Def Jam executive, referred to Gotti as "one of its most innovative soldiers who embodied hip-hop."

Gotti leaves behind his three children, Angie, Sonny, and JJ, from his marriage to ex-wife Debbie Lorenzo. The family has asked for privacy during their time of mourning.
